Destroy a Vault Upgrades Guide
Spend Cash on the right boards and robot DPS so every vault break funds the next spike.
Upgrades are how Destroy a Vault turns smelted Cash into permanent power. LoopForge Studios gives you five base upgrade paths on boards around your plot, plus per-robot DPS upgrades on the tanks you keep. This guide explains what each path does, the priority order that works for most players, and how to manage Cash so you never stall with full Gold and empty boards.
If you are still learning the loop, skim Getting Started first. Currency definitions live in Economy. Mutations and fusion multiply whatever damage you build here, so treat upgrades as the foundation.
Where to buy upgrades
Walk the boards in your base and interact (E on PC) to open each upgrade path. Separate interactions cover individual robot DPS when a robot is selected or stationed. Exact board placement notes are in Controls. Always smelt Gold at the Smelter before a shopping pass so your Cash total is current.
Codes that grant Cash — listed on Codes — should be redeemed before a planned upgrade session so the free currency lands in the same spend cycle.
The five base upgrade paths
1. Robot Damage (priority #1)
Robot Damage raises how hard your stationed tanks hit vaults. Faster breaks mean more Gold per minute, which means more Cash after smelting. This is the default first purchase whenever vaults feel slow relative to your slot count. Stacking damage early compounds into every other system: luck rolls, island unlocks, and gem drops from tougher vaults all arrive sooner when clears are quick.
Buy Robot Damage in bursts after filling critical empty slots. If you have open slots and almost no Cash, buy the slot first; if slots are full and clears drag, damage wins.
2. Robot Battery (priority #2)
Robot Battery improves effective uptime — tanks stay productive longer between downtimes. Damage without battery leaves power on the table; battery without damage just prolongs weak hits. After a solid damage tier, route Cash into Battery so your army sustains vault pressure, especially during short AFK windows when you rely on offline Gold.
A clean rhythm is: damage tier → battery tier → check slots → repeat.
3. Robot Luck
Robot Luck improves roll quality and helps mutated variants appear more often. It pairs with Index Luck (a free bonus every five unique robots, peaking near 62.5% with all 76 Index entries). Luck is valuable, but it does not clear the vault in front of you. Fund luck after damage and battery are respectable for your island, or when you specifically need better rolls to chase Index milestones.
Mutated tanks hit harder via DPS multipliers — see Mutations — so mid-game luck spending pays off once cores and natural mutations matter.
4. Roll Spots
Roll Spots expand podium capacity so you can stage more rolls. Extra spots shine when you are Index hunting or stockpiling duplicates for fusion. Early game, one solid podium workflow is enough; overspending here before damage/battery slows your Gold/hour. Revisit Roll Spots when re-roll volume is the bottleneck, not vault HP.
Fusion needs four identical copies and unlocks after island two — Robot Fusion — so extra spots become more attractive once you are farming duplicates on purpose.
5. Vault Gold Value (late priority)
Vault Gold Value increases Gold paid by vault clears. The multiplier is strong, but the early price curve fights your need for damage, battery, and slots. Buy it when your army already melts the current island’s vaults and Cash income feels limited by payout size rather than clear speed. Late-game, this board turns an efficient army into a Cash printer.
Individual robot DPS upgrades
Besides global boards, spend Cash to upgrade the DPS of robots you intend to keep. Prioritize:
- Robots already in active slots
- Mutated variants (multiplier on a higher base)
- Fused tanks after island two
- High-rarity Index pieces you will not replace soon
Avoid heavy DPS investment into temporary fillers you plan to sell or replace after the next luck spike. Global Robot Damage still helps everyone; personal DPS is for long-term keepers.
Recommended spend order by stage
First hour
- Fill slots
- Robot Damage
- Robot Battery
- Light Robot Luck if rolls feel stuck
- Ignore Vault Gold Value
Mid game (stable island, chasing Index)
- Keep damage/battery near the vault’s HP curve
- Slots whenever empty pads exist
- Robot Luck + Index progress
- Roll Spots if duplicate farming for fusion
- First Vault Gold Value tiers when clears are easy
Late game
- Maintain damage/battery for new islands
- Push Vault Gold Value
- Finish Index Luck path via collection
- Funnel Cash into mutated/fused DPS upgrades
- Use Gems for Mutation Cores on best tanks (Mutations)
Cash management habits
- Smelt before shopping so you see true Cash.
- Leave a buffer for the next slot if you are one robot away from full uptime.
- Do not re-roll away your last Cash when a board upgrade would raise Gold/hour more.
- After offline sessions, smelt → damage/battery → slots, in that order unless slots are empty.
- Redeem Codes before a planned board binge.
Think in Gold per minute, not in single upgrade vanity. If a purchase does not raise clear speed, uptime, slot count, or (later) payout size, delay it.
Synergy with other systems
Upgrades multiply everything else:
- Higher damage reaches island two faster for fusion unlocks.
- Battery protects offline Gold while you sleep.
- Luck feeds mutations that scale with the DPS you already bought.
- Vault Gold Value amplifies an army that is already efficient.

Mistakes that waste Cash
- Maxing Vault Gold Value while vaults still take forever.
- Upgrading DPS on robots you replace next roll.
- Buying Roll Spots before you have a reason to mass-roll.
- Ignoring Battery so damage upgrades sit idle.
- Forgetting Index Luck is free progress — collect uniques while you spend.
Play the boards like an investment ladder. Damage and battery buy time; luck and spots buy quality; Vault Gold Value buys payout. Climb that ladder in order and Destroy a Vault stays a smooth incremental climb instead of a Cash drought.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Destroy a Vault questions.
What is the best upgrade to buy first?
After filling empty slots, prioritize Robot Damage, then Robot Battery. Luck and Roll Spots come next; Vault Gold Value is a late purchase.
Should I upgrade individual robots or the global boards?
Keep global Robot Damage and Battery healthy first, then put personal DPS Cash into mutated, fused, or long-term keeper robots.
When is Vault Gold Value worth buying?
Buy it when your army already clears current vaults quickly and income is limited by payout size rather than clear speed.
How does Robot Luck interact with Index Luck?
Index Luck rises every five unique robots and can reach about 62.5% with all 76 entries. Robot Luck stacks on top to improve rolls and mutation odds.
Do codes help with upgrades?
Yes. Cash from codes like RELEASE and 100K funds boards and slots immediately. Redeem them from the Codes page before a spend session.
